Rochester, NY – For the fourth year in a row, 29 Design Studio has aided winning clients in the esteemed international Grow-NY Food and Agriculture competition. Earlier this week, Rochester-based Sweet Pea Plant-Based Kitchen was awarded a $250,000 prize.
“I am so proud of my team and in awe of the skill and talent they bring to the table to support our clients,” says Maureen Ballatori, founder and CEO of 29 Design Studio. The creative agency specializes in working with regional and national food, beverage, and agriculture brands. “Sweet Pea is extremely worthy of their honors. It was a pleasure to support their business growth and progress.”
“The team at 29 Design Studio went above and beyond expectations as they helped craft our winning pitch for Grow-NY,” said Sweet Pea Co-Founder Ryan Jennings. “From indispensable strategic insights to gorgeous deck design, our success is in large part due to their contributions.”
Sweet Pea’s other Co-Founder Mike Linehan had a similar feeling, saying “We couldn’t have won without [29 Design Studio’s] amazing guidance. I am forever grateful for the experience.”
Based in Rochester, NY, Sweet Pea Plant-Based Kitchen is a plant-powered kitchen creating transformative ways of wellness. Their Grow-NY prize winnings will help Mike, Ryan, and their team grow public awareness of the health benefits of plant-based nutrition and provide tools to make a plant-based lifestyle attainable for all.
“We’re also incredibly proud of our second client in the finals, Norwhey Brewing,” continued Maureen. “The innovative beverage company will continue scaling and changing the game in the better-for-you beverages industry.”
Norwhey Brewing co-founder Sam Alcaine spoke about working with the agency team by sharing “The expertise, creativity, and attention to detail that Maureen and the team at 29 Design Studio bring to brand building and communication is amazing and significantly improved how effectively we told our story to the world. The collaboration felt like friends invested in our company rather than outside consultants there for a job. We look forward to collaborating with them more in the future.”
This was the 4th year of the Grow-NY competition and Summit. The international competition drew 390 startups from 25 states and 51 countries, including 92 entries from New York. 38% of applicants included a female founder and a record 75% included a founder from an underrepresented minority group. The winners were announced on November 17 in Syracuse.
In previous years, four other 29 Design Studio clients have received awards in the Grow-NY competition. RealEats Meals, a premium prepared meal delivery service, claimed the coveted first-place prize of $1 million in 2019. In year two, Leep Foods, a grower of premium regenerative organic mushrooms, won $250,000. Year three, 2021, brought two client winners. Agtech company Ascribe Bioscience took home a second-place $500,0000 prize in 2021, while the farm management company Agri-Trak received the “Audience Choice” award and $10,000 for having the most innovative and promising pitch.
“We’re honored to support these clients in their Grow-NY efforts and to see them win is so rewarding,” Maureen noted. “The real prize is seeing the continued impact these businesses make in Upstate NY. We’re lucky to have this global competition happening right in our backyard.”
